THE SIX BILLION-WORTH MAN

“If you close your eyes, you almost believe it.”
— Andros Dresamore i

Critical note

by André de Sa Moreira

In this performance, Andros Dresamore i slips into the shoes of a low-cost television hero. He lifts a simple urban pylon, runs a few meters, then jumps, all accompanied by the famous sound effect from The Six Million Dollar Man. Illusory strength, borrowed from fiction, is applied to a trivial gesture. This discrepancy between overplayed heroism and the banal object subverts the very notion of power. Here, the body becomes a sound effect, a simulacrum of action, a tender parody of our childhood mythologies.

A pylon raised like an imaginary trophy, a ridiculous jump amplified by a cult sound effect... We find a little of our television-watching childhood that reminds us how much we still need to believe in it, in a present often in search of power.
