SABOTAGE

“Being a vandal without vandalizing, a gangster without stalking, or free without freedom.”

by André de Sá Moreira

The man mimes writing without ever producing a visible trace. The hand follows the contours of a tag already placed, repeating a gesture that belongs to no one. The Beastie Boys soundtrack injects a tension that spills out of the frame and contaminates the slightest movement. Each second seems prepared for an illegality that never arrives. The garage door becomes a surface of memory, a scene where the action is already accomplished. By replaying it, he transforms the graffiti into a ghost, a pure choreography without stakes. The final escape imposes a brutal outcome, as if the panic had its own autonomy and no longer needed a cause.

The gesture attacks an already existing image, as if to exhaust its meaning.

The camera records an illegible act: the body acts as if transgressing, despite the wall remaining unchanged. It replays the crime with derisory precision. The final stroke acts as an invisible signature.
