CONVERSATION

“That day, I wanted to disappear. I needed a heavy silence. And the trash can was there. It said hello to me. I replied, ‘Do we already know each other?’ We cried together.”

Critical note

by André de Sá Moreira

With Conversation, Andros Desamore i continues his exploration of impossible dialogues.
Here, he chooses as his interlocutor a municipal trash can screwed to the sidewalk—a hollow, black cylinder, receptacle of the unwanted.
By sticking his head inside, he doesn't search. He runs away, hides, and then listens.
When his face disappears into the opening, the soundtrack of The Big Blue invades the real sound.
What begins as an unexpected and desperate gesture becomes a profound, introspective, trash-mystical experience.

Here, the trash can is neither object nor metaphor. It becomes a threshold. What does a city tell us when we agree to listen to its trash?

Like a post-urban meditation on presence, silence, and the depths of the city, who hasn't dreamed of plunging headfirst into another world? Perhaps the ostriches are right.

Testimony

"I saw a guy plunged into a trash can and I laughed. I stood there for a while. His head was in the trash can and his back arched like a beaten dog. He wouldn't come out. It wasn't funny; it was... weird and fragile too.

And then I felt ashamed of myself for laughing."
